Caucasian rugs are named after the region they were originally produced from, in the Caucasus Mountains. This style commonly weaves geometric or abstract designs using symmetrical knots. This region is hemmed in by the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea, Russia, Turkey and Iran. To preserve the traditions, many surrounding nations continue to keep this style of Caucasian rugs alive today by using the traditional materials of wool, goat hair, and organic vegetable dyes as well as weaving the iconic patterns.
